Elisabeth Dunham is a longtime writer for national and regional news organizations. As a staff
writer covering national news and entertainment for The Associated Press, her byline appeared
in virtually every major newspaper in the world. She is also a longtime writer (staff and
freelance) for The Oregonian newspaper in Portland, Ore., where she has covered features and topics including
environmental design, interior design, green products and a variety of other topics. She has also
written for a Fortune 500 company creating impact stories about technology-driven business-
development programs in third world countries. She has worked for many smaller businesses
writing and editing marketing material and website content. As a magazine and newspaper
writer she also covers health and wellness, nutrition, travel and entertainment. Her stories have
appeared in Green Living, Oregon Home, Portland Monthly, Bend Living, the San Francisco
Chronicle, the Los Angeles Times, Glamour, ‘Teen and USA Today and many other publications.
She is author of the Easygoing Guide book and webinar series set for publication later this year.
Elisabeth graduated from the No. 1 ranked University of Missouri School of Journalism, where
she won a Hearst Award for depth writing (the highest award for college print journalism) for a
series on indoor air pollution. Recently, she graduated from the Institute for Integrative
Nutrition’s dual certificate program with the State University of New York. As a staff writer
for The Oregonian she covered land-use and planning, homes and gardens, environmental
design – topics she continues to cover as a freelance writer. She is now branching out into the
high-tech sector, creating marketing material for one of the world’s largest technology
companies.
Elisabeth Dunham is also a health writer and holistic health counselor who works with clients
all over the United States and sometimes even in India and Europe. After becoming ill with Lyme disease
many years ago she decided to overhaul her diet and lifestyle and was surprised at the positive impacts on her health.
While others diagnosed with the same disease never seemed to get better despite rounds and rounds of drugs,
she began to regain her health and was eventually able to return to work and finish a second university program.
She is a graduate of the No. 1 ranked University of Missouri School of Journalism as well as the
Institute for Integrative Nutrition’s dual program with the State University of New York, where
she received training in more than 100 dietary theories and studied a variety of practical
nutritional and lifestyle coaching methods. She is also a widely published freelance writer and
author of a series of health-related books due out in 2015 as well as an expert on gentle, food-
based heavy metal detoxification. As a health counselor and writer her goal is to help people
reach their full health and wellness potential by creating a personalized “roadmap to health” that
suits each body and lifestyle. Additionally she is the founder and inventor of Lava Love, a line of
soaps and other spa products made from three types of Oregon lava. And last but not least as a
musician she has toured the world as the lead singer of Elisabeth Ames & the Countrypolitans, one of
Oregon and Southern Calfiornia’s top honky tonk bands in the mid-2000’s. Her single LA Turnaround hit No.
9 on the European Americana charts. She is also the founder of Lava Love, a line of spa products - most famously
the Lava Love Volcano Soap - made from three types of lava (volcanic ash) from Oregon Volcanoes. You can buy
Lava Love at Whole Foods nationally and about 50 other boutiques and stores. Here is a story about Elisabeth and her

I just got ahold of this very old clip of me at about age 23 or 24 interviewing Jerry Garcia when I was a reporter for The Associated Press in San Francisco. This is after Jerry's diabetes scare but before the band resumed playing together again in the years before Jerry died. I almost fell over when (while listening to this casette in my car two days ago) the topic turned to health.
I wish I had asked him more about what he was eating but it's still pretty cool. I also loves what he has to say about manifesting and not setting limits. I was incredibly nervous to be left alone in a room with him for 30 minutes - so bear with this very young and very scared reporter. Jerry was the nicest rock star I ever interviewed, by far, but I was still terrified.
Basically, and eerily enough, we cover all three tenents of health counseling:
I believe he was exactly who he was supposed to be in this lifetime and he left us years and years of listening pleasure.
I was told later that Eric Risberg (the AP photographer of shot this series I wrote on the Grateful Dead) and I were the last two reporters given full access to the band (in their office and backstage in their dressing rooms for interviews) in the year or so before Jerry died. I'm grateful to have this final interview with Jerry and this little clip to share with you.
